Work Hard, Play Harder
Location
The White Theatre Bristol
Date
April 2023
How can clowning encourage adults to re-discover the value of play and potential for joy in everyday life? In this immersive performance, we locate this conversation within the capitalist structures of a 9-5 working day. The audience found themselves attending an office work experience. However, unique to this office, and kept secret from the board, the employees are clowns. Equal parts awkward office party, clown cabaret and coulrophobes' worst nightmare, Work Hard, Play Harder challenged the audience to find their own inner clown. We invited audiences to reinvent mundane office tasks, such as turning timed toilet breaks into mini rave parties and reimagining filing documents as the paper tossing Olympic championships. We hope every audience member had as much fun watching as we did creating this show. '
